Landslide blocks Beni–Jomsom road, disrupting Mustang travel

KATHMANDU: The Beni–Jomsom–Korala road, which connects Mustang to the national highway network, has been obstructed since this morning after a landslide occurred at Mahabhir in Annapurna Rural Municipality-7 of Myagdi district.

The landslide, carrying rocks and mud, disrupted direct transportation along the 76-kilometer Beni–Jomsom road section.

Vehicles traveling from Beni to Mustang and from Jomsom to Beni have been stranded midway due to the road blockage.

Local residents, tourists visiting Mustang, and pilgrims traveling to Muktinath Temple have been affected by the disruption.

Information officer at the District Police Office, Sagar Timilsina, said efforts are underway to reopen the road by mobilizing equipment from the Department of Roads.

Landslides frequently occur at Mahabhir from a cliff located around 500 meters above the road. Even light rainfall triggers mudslides in the area, repeatedly blocking the road and increasing the risk of accidents.
