KATHMANDU: Health and Population Minister Nisha Mehta has said the government will soon introduce a digital system in government hospitals that will allow patients to receive their medical reports without visiting the hospital.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting Bir Hospital on Sunday, the minister said patients would be able to access their test reports digitally.
During the visit, patients and their relatives complained about delays in receiving medical test reports. Hospital authorities said the delay occurs as around 5,000 patients receive outpatient services at the hospital every day.
Mehta said arrangements will soon be made so that patients do not have to come to the hospital just to collect their reports.
She also urged hospital management to ensure that patients do not have to purchase medicines from outside pharmacies.
The minister said plans to improve the overall health sector will be announced soon.
Following a government directive, hospitals have also begun operating outpatient services even on Sundays, which are public holidays in Nepal.
