PM Karki reviews election preparedness in Solukhumbu, other districts

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday visited Solukhumbu and other districts to review election preparedness and assess the ground situation.

According to her secretariat, PM Karki held discussions with local residents and government officials in Namche and Salleri of Solukhumbu.

In Salleri, an interaction was held at the District Coordination Committee office in the presence of Chief Election Officer Chandra Kumar Pokharel, Chief District Officer Leela Kumari KC Pandey, Chief of District Security bodies, including Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local representatives.

During the meeting, Chief Election Officer Pokharel and CDO KC briefed the Prime Minister on the status of election preparations.

CDO KC informed that the security situation remains stable, daily life is normal, and no adverse weather conditions have been observed so far. Referring to past records, she noted that snowfall incidents in Falgun have been minimal in recent years, though alternative arrangements may be required in some high Himalayan areas if snowfall occurs.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress made so far, PM Karki said she was confident that the upcoming elections would be held in a peaceful and credible environment.

“This election is not being held under normal circumstances. We are conducting it in a special situation, so it must be completed with special preparations,” she said. “Our effort should be to ensure maximum voter participation. Voters must be able to exercise their franchise in a free and credible environment. We will make every possible effort for that.”

The Prime Minister’s team also visited Bhojpur to review election preparations. An interaction was held with Chief Election Officer and District Judge Narayan Prasad Dahal, along with district security chiefs, who reported that there are no major security challenges in the district.

PM Karki was accompanied by her press advisor Ram Bahadur Rawal, Chief Personal Secretary Adarsha Kumar Shrestha, and other officials.
