International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism being observed today

KATHMANDU: The International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism is being observed today. The day is marked in countries around the world to raise awareness and strengthen international cooperation against violent extremism.

This marks the fourth year since the United Nations designated the day for global observance. The United Nations Headquarters, along with its offices worldwide, intergovernmental organizations, civil society groups, religious leaders, the private sector, educational institutions, and media representatives, are coming together to express solidarity in preventing violent extremism.

Emphasizing that terrorism and violent extremism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic group, the United Nations has urged the international community to enhance coordination and cooperation.

The UN has also stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of violent extremism through dialogue, partnerships, and community-led solutions.

Noting that security measures alone are insufficient to ensure long-term peace and stability, the organization highlighted the need to consider social, economic, and ideological factors.

On this occasion, the United Nations has called on individuals and institutions worldwide to work together in a spirit of shared responsibility and cooperation.
