Monsoon intensifies, heavy downpours likely today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds are currently influencing weather conditions across Nepal, with the monsoon trough positioned slightly north of its average location, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department said the country is experiencing generally cloudy conditions. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at one or two places in Madhes Province.

This afternoon, skies are expected to remain generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many parts of the hilly region and at some places in the Tarai and mountainous regions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas.

The Department has forecast heavy rainfall at a few places in the hilly districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, and at one or two places in the hilly and Tarai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Cloudy conditions are expected to persist tonight. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the mountainous region, while many areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are expected to receive rainfall. Similar weather is forecast for some places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Department has also warned of heavy rainfall at a few places in Koshi, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and at isolated locations in other parts of the country, urging the public to remain alert for possible weather-related hazards.
