Government announces minimum standards for basic healthcare services



KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to implement minimum standards for basic healthcare services as part of its policy and programme for the fiscal year 2083/84.

Presenting the policy and programme at a joint session of the federal Parliament, President Ram Chandra Poudel said the government aims to ensure equal access to quality healthcare services for citizens across the country.

The government stated that it would introduce an integrated healthcare service model equipped with medicines, health equipment and essential infrastructure.

According to the policy document, the government will focus on ensuring the availability of necessary health personnel, services and medical equipment in healthcare institutions to make service delivery more effective.

The policy also announces plans to ensure access to basic hospitals in all local levels across Nepal, with an emphasis on expanding and strengthening hospital services so that citizens can receive healthcare more conveniently within their own communities.

In addition, the government said it would expand the number and service coverage of community health workers and female community health volunteers.

Their roles in maternal and child healthcare, vaccination, nutrition and primary treatment services will be further strengthened, according to the policy.

The government has stated that improving access to and the quality of healthcare services will remain a priority, with special focus on expanding services to local levels, developing necessary infrastructure and managing healthcare manpower effectively.
