Moderate rain and thunderstorms likely today



KATHMANDU: Several parts of Nepal are likely to witness moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning today, with the possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in some hilly and mountainous areas.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Nepal is currently under the partial influence of westerly winds, local winds, a low-pressure system in the lower atmosphere near eastern Nepal, and an upper atmospheric low-pressure line over the central and eastern regions.

At present, the weather remains generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, while the rest of the country is seeing partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is taking place in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as at one or two locations in the hilly region of Lumbini Province.

According to the Department, this afternoon is expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous regions across the country, including Sudurpaschim Province, while the Terai region will experience partly cloudy weather.

There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous areas, and at isolated locations in the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Similarly, tonight’s forecast indicates generally cloudy weather in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, with partly cloudy conditions elsewhere.

The Department has also predicted moderate to heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning, and snowfall at a few places in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and at one or two locations in the remaining provinces.
