Budget session of Federal Parliament to begin today



KATHMANDU: The budget session of the Federal Parliament is set to begin today, with the government’s annual policy and programme also scheduled to be presented.

According to Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri, President Ram Chandra Paudel will address a joint sitting of both houses of the Federal Parliament in line with Article 95 of the Constitution. The policy and programme will be presented at 4:00 pm.

The Constitution provides that the President shall address a joint sitting of both houses after the first session following the general election of the House of Representatives and at the commencement of each annual session.

Lawmakers from both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly have been requested to attend the joint sitting by 3:45 pm.

Before the joint session, separate meetings of both houses will take place at 2:00 pm. In the House of Representatives, the agenda includes informing members about the presidential summons for the session, updates from the Office of the President regarding changes in the Council of Ministers, nomination of members to chair the meeting in the Speaker’s absence, approval of the ordinance related to the removal of legislative obstacles under Rule 260 of the House of Representatives Regulations 2079, and presentation of the draft House Rules.

Similarly, eight ordinances issued by the government, including the Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2083, the Ordinance on Special Provisions for Removal from Public Office 2083, and the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedures) First Amendment Ordinance 2083, will be tabled in the House. The same ordinances will also be presented in the National Assembly.
