HoR election: Proportional representation vote counting concludes



KATHMANDU: The counting of votes under the proportional representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives (HoR) election held on March 5 has been completed.

The vote counting concluded following the final tally in Gorkha-1 and Ilam-1, according to Assistant Spokesperson of the Election Commission of Nepal, Kul Bahadur GC.

GC said that although vote counting has been finalized, the process of collecting detailed reports from the respective election officers’ offices is still underway.

With the completion of PR vote counting, the commission has begun preparations to determine the distribution of seats among political parties under the proportional representation system. Officials said the process of allocating seats is expected to be finalized within the next few days.

According to the commission, by 11:00 am on Wednesday a total of 10,739,115 votes had been counted under the PR category.

Among the parties, the Rastriya Swatantra Party has secured the highest number of votes with 5,139,235.

The Nepali Congress follows with 1,749,583 votes, while the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) has obtained 1,448,854 votes.

Similarly, the Nepal Communist Party has received 805,773 votes. The Shram Sanskriti Party secured 378,649 votes, while the Rastriya Prajatantra Party obtained 329,472 votes.

Other political parties failed to cross the mandatory threshold of three percent of the total valid votes required under the proportional representation system, as stipulated by prevailing election laws.
