KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has received 51 complaints so far at the Central Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee and has sought clarification from the concerned political parties and candidates, the Commission said.
According to the EC, responses have been received in 30 of the cases.
The Commission has sought explanations from political parties, candidates, government and non-government organizations, media outlets and journalists accused of violating the election code of conduct. In cases involving registered media houses and affiliated journalists, the Commission has forwarded the matter to the Press Council Nepal for clarification and further action, said EC Legal Officer Mohan Raj Joshi.
At the district level, complaints related to violations of the election code of conduct have also been registered, and necessary actions are being taken accordingly.
The Commission said it has initiated investigations and legal procedures to ensure effective implementation of the code of conduct and to minimize violations during the election period.
To strengthen monitoring, the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee, District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committees, District Monitoring Officers and concerned election offices have been mobilized, Joshi said.
In line with Section 32 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, assistant chief district officers in all 77 districts have been designated as monitoring officers for non-financial matters, while chief treasury controllers have been assigned to oversee financial issues.
The Commission said efforts are underway across all districts to inform stakeholders about the code of conduct and secure commitments to its compliance. At the district level, authorities have been seeking clarification from alleged violators and initiating legal action where wrongdoing has been established.
