Authorities initiate measures to ease cooking gas supply

KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has decided to coordinate and regulate transportation management to make it more effective in order to address the ongoing problems in the supply of cooking gas.

Consumers have been facing difficulties due to disruptions in the distribution of cooking gas in recent days. In response, the Department has urged the Nepal Oil Corporation to take necessary steps to improve transportation management and has issued instructions to major gas-producing companies.

As part of the approval process for gas bottling industries operating in the Kathmandu Valley, the Department has directed them to increase production and distribution in line with consumer demand. Industries have been instructed to operate at full capacity to boost supply.

The Department has also directed LP gas dealers, retailers, and supplier companies to maintain proper records of consumer demand and ensure equitable distribution to prevent unnecessary hoarding.

Likewise, consumers and commercial establishments have been urged to purchase only the required quantity of cooking gas and avoid panic buying.

The Department said it has been closely monitoring and analyzing the supply chain situation, from production and storage to distribution, across large suppliers and small dealers to ensure adequate gas availability in the market.
