Voter education program to run from Feb 15–March 1

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that a voter education program will be conducted in all 6,743 wards nationwide from February 15 to March 1 ahead of the House of Representatives (HoR) elections.

Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that one voter education volunteer will be deployed in each ward to reach local settlements and inform voters about the importance of elections and the voting process using sample ballots. Previously designated contact persons at each local level will serve as monitors for the program.

Bhattarai added that district- and local-level training and orientation for voter education monitors and volunteers will be completed by mid-February. Election-related materials are also being shared through the Commission’s official social media pages.

The program aims to provide comprehensive information to voters through mass media, covering the voting process, use of ballot papers, secret voting, the election code of conduct, and methods to avoid false and misleading information.

The Voter Education Special Program 2082, approved by the Commission, is guided by the Election Education and Voter Education Directive, 2078 BS, and Section 17 of the Constitution of Nepal. Its objective is to provide timely, accurate information about the election process, promote responsible participation, and reduce invalid votes.

Bhattarai emphasized that the initiative will use mass media, social media, and volunteers to develop a responsible and informed voting culture, ensuring voters are well-prepared for the elections scheduled for March 5.
