31 arrested in drug-related cases



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 31 people from various parts of the country on suspicion of involvement in drug-related offences during routine patrols.

According to the Central Police Newsroom, the arrests were made in Kathmandu, Sunsari, Lalitpur, Udayapur, Dang, Nawalparasi East, Jhapa, Morang, Bhaktapur, Banke, Kaski and Kailali districts.

In Kathmandu, eight people were arrested from Tarakeswor Municipality-8 with 32 grams and 500 milligrams of brown heroin and Rs 30,000 in cash. Police also arrested one person from Sundhara.

Similarly, one person was arrested from Bhansar Tole in Koshi Rural Municipality-1, Sunsari; another from Tafakhal Park in Harisiddhi, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-28; and one from Ambasi in Belaka Municipality-1, Udayapur, with five kilograms of marijuana.

Police also arrested one person each from Ranijaruwa in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-5, Dang; Tangikot in Devchuli Municipality-16, Nawalparasi East; Bargachhi Chowk in Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-6, Morang; and Lokanthali in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-1, Bhaktapur.

The person arrested in Lokanthali was found in possession of 1,610 tablets of tramadol, 26 tablets of Nitravet and Rs 67,400 in cash. Four people were also arrested from Damak Municipality-7 in Jhapa.

In Banke, police arrested Ramnaresh Kurmi from Piparhawa in Duduwa Rural Municipality-1 with 10 kilograms of marijuana.

Police also arrested one person from Mahendrapul in Pokhara Metropolitan City-9, Kaski, and two people from Bangaun in Tikapur Municipality-1, Kailali, on Thursday evening.

Further details about the arrests and the substances seized in the remaining cases were not immediately available.
