Kulman Ghising expresses grief over Ganesh Nepali’s death, calls for humane state policies

KATHMANDU: Ujyalo Nepal Party Chair Kulman Ghising has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 25-year-old Ganesh Nepali, describing the incident as a serious question over the state’s sensitivity and a matter of national shame.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Ghising said the tragic death of the young man from Mugu, who had come to Kathmandu in search of a better future, had left him deeply shocked and saddened.

Ghising said it was unfortunate that a young man struggling to support himself and his family through ride-sharing work in the capital had become so disillusioned by state policies, administrative practices and prevailing circumstances that he resorted to self-immolation.

He said Nepali’s death was not merely the loss of an individual but also reflected the declining trust of citizens in the state. According to Ghising, the fact that a young man seeking to earn an honest living with dignity lost his life raises serious questions about the existing system.

He further said recent government policies and actions have increasingly discouraged and displaced poor people, workers and landless communities, stressing that being born in a remote area or living through honest labor should never be treated as a crime.

Ghising argued that the state’s foremost responsibility is to provide citizens with hope and the opportunity to live with dignity rather than despair.

Calling for measures to prevent similar tragedies, he urged the government to adopt sensitive, just and human-centered policies that ensure every citizen can live safely with dignity, rights and respect.

He also extended heartfelt condolences to Nepali’s bereaved family and paid tribute to the deceased.
