RPP lawmaker blames PM Balen Shah over Ganesh Nepali’s death

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party parliamentary leader Gyanendra Shahi has criticized the government over the death of Ganesh Nepali, saying the incident reflects the hardships faced by poor and marginalized people in Kathmandu.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Friday, Shahi linked his remarks to Nepali’s death and argued that conditions in the capital had become increasingly difficult for economically disadvantaged citizens.

Questioning whether Kathmandu remains a city for all citizens, Shahi said the capital should belong equally to poor, working-class and marginalized people.

He also alleged that current government policies disproportionately favor wealthy individuals while neglecting the needs of low-income citizens.

“The government is needed by the poor, the marginalized and the disadvantaged—not by billionaires and millionaires,” Shahi said, arguing that existing laws, policies and Cabinet decisions appear to benefit those with financial resources.

He further claimed that government policies were sending the message that only those with money could live with dignity in Nepal, while the lives of those without financial means were being undervalued.
