Climber dies after suffering altitude sickness on Everest



SOLUKHUMBU: A climber has died after suffering from suspected high-altitude sickness during an ascent of Mount Everest.

According to the District Police Office, Bijay Ghimire Bishwakarma, a resident of Solududhakunda Municipality–7, died after his condition deteriorated in the higher section of the mountain.

Police Information Officer Inspector Bikash Rai said Ghimire, who had reached the Camp I area, fell seriously ill. He was immediately evacuated towards the base camp, but died on the way.

Ghimire was climbing through Trek Nepal Company. His body was airlifted by helicopter to Lukla, and preparations are underway to bring it to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for post-mortem.

He had previously successfully summited Mount Everest and had also been working as a climbing guide in recent years.
