Fire destroys 13 houses and sheds in Saptari’s Babhangama



SAPTARI: A massive fire that broke out in Babhangama, Ward No. 6 of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality in Saptari last evening has destroyed 13 houses and sheds belonging to six families.

Preliminary information suggests the fire may have started from a burning piece of wood in the shed of local resident Ram Awatar Yadav.

The blaze, which began around 7 pm, quickly spread and engulfed nearby homes and sheds. According to locals, two houses and a shed belonging to Ram Awtar Yadav, two houses and a shed of Jugain Yadav, and two houses and a shed of Anil Yadav were completely destroyed.

Similarly, one house each belonging to Yogindra Yadav, Rajkumar Yadav and Dhirendra Yadav was also damaged in the fire.

Fire engines from Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality Fire Brigade and the Madhesh Province Police Training Center in Rajbiraj were deployed. The fire was brought under control after about an hour.

Authorities estimate property losses exceeding Rs 4 million, including food supplies, clothing, jewellery, furniture and cash. However, officials said the final assessment of damages is still underway.

Police spokesperson Dambar Bahadur Puri said investigations into the incident are ongoing, and details of the losses are being collected.
