Two teenage girls found dead in Sani Bheri River in Rukum West; one still missing

RUKUM WEST: The bodies of two teenage girls were found on Tuesday near Bhagley along the Sani Bheri River in Banphikot Rural Municipality-3 of Rukum West.

According to the District Police Office, one more girl who had gone with them is still missing, and a search operation is underway.

Police Inspector Hari Prasad Pun of the District Police Office said the bodies of 14-year-old Urmila Oli and 12-year-old Kalpana Oli, both residents of Garalagoth in Banphikot Rural Municipality-3, were recovered from the riverbank near Bhagley.

He said that another girl, 12-year-old Sapana Oli, remains missing and search efforts are ongoing.

The bodies of Urmila and Kalpana were found about 500 meters apart along the riverbank.

Police suspect that the girls may have been swept away by the river while returning home after attending a neighbor’s wedding on Monday.

A police team led by Inspector Pun, along with officers from the temporary police post in Chinkhet, has reached the incident site. Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
