Govt to provide Rs 1.5 billion in grants to sugarcane farmers



KATHMANDU: The government is set to provide Rs 1.5 billion in grant assistance to sugarcane farmers as an incentive for sugarcane production.

Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary approved the procedures for distributing the grants to sugarcane-producing farmers on Thursday, according to her personal secretariat.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment said the grant assistance would be distributed to farmers in Bardiya, Rautahat, Kailali and Kanchanpur.

The government has been providing sugarcane farmers with an annual subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal to support production.
