Speaker Aryal, Indian envoy discuss Nepal-India ties and parliamentary cooperation

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives Dol Prasad Aryal held a courtesy meeting with Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava at Singha Durbar on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Speaker Aryal said Nepal and India share deep-rooted ties based on common civilization, geographical proximity, and longstanding historical, cultural, and social relations. He noted that bilateral cooperation continues to expand through established mechanisms covering trade, security, civil aviation, water resources, and connectivity.

Aryal said exchanges of high-level visits have further strengthened bilateral relations and expressed confidence that the expansion of air, rail, and bus services would enhance people-to-people contacts and economic cooperation. He also voiced hope that additional flight, railway, and bus routes would be introduced in the future.

The Speaker informed the ambassador that he had extended an invitation to Om Birla to visit Nepal and said the country was ready to welcome him at a mutually convenient time.

During the meeting, Ambassador Srivastava said Lok Sabha Speaker Birla was keen to visit Nepal and invited Speaker Aryal and Nepali lawmakers to visit India to study and observe the country’s parliamentary practices.

The ambassador said parliamentary diplomacy and high-level political dialogue could play an important role in elevating Nepal-India relations, adding that the Government of India remains committed to strengthening cooperation in trade, connectivity, energy, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
