KATHMANDU: Health and Food Hygiene Minister Nisha Mehta and Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Dagny Mjøs held a courtesy meeting on Thursday, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the health sector.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the longstanding friendly relations between Nepal and Norway and explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in healthcare.
Minister Mehta appreciated Norway’s continued support for Nepal’s health sector, particularly in strengthening the health system, health information systems, mental health, health education and research, maternal and child health, and the Female Community Health Volunteer programme.
Highlighting the country’s growing healthcare needs and disease burden, Mehta said the government has prioritised the development of health infrastructure, digitalisation of health services, climate change and public health, strengthening non-communicable disease and mental health services, health tourism and the promotion of medicinal herbs. She expressed hope for expanded cooperation in these areas.
Ambassador Mjøs reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to continuing its support for Nepal’s health sector and other priority areas in line with the Nepal government’s development agenda.
