KATHMANDU: The monsoon trough, a major weather system influencing rainfall in Nepal, is gradually shifting closer to the country, increasing the possibility of enhanced monsoon activity and more rainfall in the coming days.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division, monsoon winds are currently influencing weather conditions across the country. The monsoon trough is currently positioned slightly north of its average location and is expected to gradually shift closer to Nepal in the coming days.
The Division stated that the monsoon trough is likely to approach Nepal gradually, which may result in increased monsoon activity.
Meteorologists say that the movement of the monsoon trough closer to Nepal generally leads to stronger moisture inflow and increased rainfall across the country. As the system becomes more active, rainfall intensity and coverage are likely to increase in various parts of Nepal.
The increase in monsoon activity may also raise the risk of weather-related hazards, including floods, landslides and inundation, particularly in vulnerable areas such as steep hill regions and river basins.
The Division has advised the public, local authorities and concerned agencies to remain alert and follow regular weather updates, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
