RPP left embarrassed as RSP backs Shram Sanskriti Party for deputy speaker

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has accused Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane of political betrayal regarding the election of the Deputy Speaker.

RPP Parliamentary Party leader Gyanendra Shahi revealed that his party filed lawmaker Saraswati Lama’s candidacy only after receiving personal assurances from Lamichhane. According to Shahi, Lamichhane had encouraged the move during multiple discussions and a final phone call on Thursday.

“We registered the nomination based on Rabi’s word,” Shahi said, expressing shock at the RSP’s sudden change of heart. “He told us to move forward, regardless of what happens later. Now, why he changed his mind is for him to explain.”

The sudden shift has left the RPP sidelined and has sparked fresh tension between the two parties. While the RSP has recently secured the Speaker’s post with DP Aryal, the internal rift over the Deputy Speaker position signals a deepening divide within the new political alliances in Parliament.
