Rastriya Swatantra Party dominates, final results pending in Sankhuwasabha-1 and Dhanusha-1

KATHMANDU: Results for the House of Representatives elections have been finalized across the country, except for Sankhuwasabha-1 and Dhanusha-1.

In Sankhuwasabha-1, the CPN-UML candidate is currently leading. Arjun Kumar Karki of UML has received 13,051 votes, while Mingma Sherpa of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has secured 11,789 votes.

Nationwide, the RSP has won 125 seats, maintaining a dominant lead. The UML is projected to secure 8 seats, while the Nepali Congress follows in second place with 18 seats. Given the lead in Sankhuwasabha, UML’s final tally could increase to 9 seats. Meanwhile, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has won 7 seats.

In Dhanusha-1, RSP candidate Kishori Sah Kamal was disqualified, leaving Matrika Prasad Yadav of the NCP in the lead. However, the vote for the “Ghanṭi” symbol has reportedly exceeded Yadav’s total by more than double. Kishori Sah has filed a writ at the Supreme Court challenging her disqualification. The Supreme Court issued a show-cause order on Monday, and a final decision is expected only on Falgun 29.

The Shram Sanskriti Party, led by Harka Sampang, ranks fifth nationwide. The party secured victories in Bhojpur, Khotang and Sunsari-1, losing closely contested races in Ilam and Panchthar.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party managed to win one seat from Jumla.

While the counting of first-past-the-post votes is nearly complete, proportional representation (PR) vote counting continues. So far, the RSP has secured 4,564,314 PR votes. The Nepali Congress has obtained 1,530,309 votes, and UML has received 1,276,451 votes.

The NCP has 687,136 PR votes. The Shram Sanskriti Party has gathered 324,533 votes, while Rastriya Prajatantra Party has 302,203 votes. Based on the current PR vote count, the Shram Sanskriti Party is likely to achieve national party status.
