Balen submits election expense report after defeating Oli in Jhapa-5



KATHMANDU: Balen Shah, the candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Jhapa-5, has submitted his election expense report to the Election Commission Nepal.

Shah, who defeated KP Sharma Oli, chair of the CPN-UML, filed the report in connection with the House of Representatives election.

According to the expense statement, Shah spent a total of Rs 1,417,289 during his election campaign.

The report shows that the largest share of the expenditure, Rs 580,000, was spent on door-to-door campaign activities conducted across different wards in the constituency.

Similarly, Shah spent Rs 293,800 on vehicle rental and fuel for two vehicles used during the campaign period.

Other reported expenses include Rs 35,000 for five air travel trips and Rs 28,970 for refreshments during a voter training program attended by 58 participants.

The expense breakdown also shows that Rs 49,850 was spent on printing sample ballot papers, while Rs 157,041 was used for printing campaign materials such as paper posters and banners.

Additionally, Rs 199,808 was spent on campaign materials including banners and stickers.

Operational costs for the Jhapa-5 election office included Rs 120,000 for water supply over two months and Rs 22,820 for stationery.

The nomination registration fee amounted to Rs 10,000.

The expense report, signed by candidate representative Navin Bhandari, was registered at the district election office on March 8.

Shah secured victory in Jhapa-5 with a significant margin, defeating Oli, making the disclosure of his campaign spending a topic of public interest.
