Kulman Ghising’s Ujyalo Nepal and supporting party miss out on direct seats

KATHMANDU: Kulman Ghising, chair of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, has been defeated in the House of Representatives of Nepal election from Kathmandu District constituency-3.

The Rastriya Parivartan Party, which Ghising supported under the proportional representation (PR) system, also failed to win any seat under the first-past-the-post category.

Ghising’s own party, Ujyalo Nepal Party, likewise could not secure a direct seat in the election.

However, under the proportional representation system, the Rastriya Parivartan Party has secured more than 100,000 votes. According to the latest vote count, the party has received 119,500 votes, accounting for around 1.43 percent of the total votes.

Ghising had supported the party in the PR system under the “Bansuri” election symbol.

The party, however, failed to secure any seats after internal disputes emerged when it could not submit its closed list at a time when discussions were underway regarding a possible merger with the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
