KATHMANDU: Vote counting under the proportional representation (PR) system remains to begin in eight constituencies in the House of Representatives of Nepal elections held on March 5.
According to the Election Commission Nepal, PR vote counting is yet to start in Sankhuwasabha District, Ilam District constituency-1, Achham District-2, Bajura District, Gorkha District constituencies 1 and 2, and Dhanusha District constituencies 1 and 2.
Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said vote counting under the PR category has already been completed in several constituencies across the country.
These include constituencies in Kathmandu District (1–10), Bhaktapur District (1 and 2), Lalitpur District (1 and 3), as well as multiple constituencies in districts such as Morang District, Sunsari District, Jhapa District, Kanchanpur District, Kailali District, Rolpa District, Rukum West District, Kaski District, Tanahun District and Parbat District, among others.
The commission expects all PR vote counting to be completed by the morning of March 10.
After the final count, the commission will determine the number of lawmakers each party will receive based on the votes secured by parties that cross the required threshold.
Political parties will then be asked to recommend names of lawmakers from their closed lists in line with the inclusive cluster system. After verification of the recommended names, the commission will finalize the list of PR lawmakers and issue certificates.
According to Bhattarai, the commission aims to complete all these processes by March 19.
