Sub-zero readings in three other districts

KATHMANDU: As temperatures continue to fall across Nepal, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu dropped to 2.4°C today (Friday), marking the lowest temperature recorded in the capital this year, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Meteorologist Binu Maharjan noted that temperatures have been gradually declining since early January and this trend is expected to continue. Maharjan advised residents to take precautions against the cold during this period. Today’s 2.4°C is a new low for the year.

Other districts are also experiencing sharp temperature drops. Jumla recorded the lowest temperature at -7.7°C, slightly warmer than the -8.1°C recorded on Thursday. Jomsom dropped to -5°C, Jiri in Dolakha to -2.1°C, while Dadeldhura recorded 1.5°C, Dipayal 1.4°C, Birendranagar 2.5°C, Taplejung 3.9°C, and Lumle 3.6°C.

The Department reported that partial westerly winds and a low-pressure system in the southwest Bay of Bengal are influencing the country’s weather. According to the Department, the weather will be partly cloudy in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, while other hilly and mountainous areas will remain clear. Mist and fog are expected in parts of the Terai, including Koshi, Madhes, and Lumbini Provinces.

The Department has warned that fog and mist in the Terai region may partially affect daily life, health, tourism, and air and road transport in the morning. Residents are advised to stay updated with daily weather forecasts issued by the Department’s Weather Forecasting Division and exercise caution.
