NC Acting President Khadka postpones scheduled press conference

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has postponed the press conference that was scheduled to be held today.

Khadka had planned to address the media at a time when the party has been sharply divided, with leaders and cadres split for and against the proposed special general convention, pushing internal tensions to a peak.

Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel had earlier informed the media that the press conference would take place at 1 pm today at the party’s central office in Sanepa. However, Paudel later issued another notice stating that the press conference had been postponed.

It had been widely publicized that the press conference would be held in the presence of leader from the dissident camp, Dr Shekhar Koirala. The reason behind the sudden postponement, however, has not been made public.

Earlier, a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee held on Thursday had decided to appeal for the immediate suspension of the special general convention.
