US Charge d’Affaires Boldin and Minister Badi hold talks

KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security Sita Badi met with US Charge d’Affaires to Nepal Megan Boldin today.

The meeting focused on strengthening Nepal-US relations, rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected areas, including Rasuwa, measures to control human trafficking and smuggling, and cooperation in social development.

Boldin expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods in Bhotekoshi, Rasuwa, and paid tribute to the victims. She also expressed concern over the situation of flood-affected communities and ongoing rehabilitation efforts, and reaffirmed the US commitment to supporting Nepal.

Minister Badi said the diplomatic relations between Nepal and the United States, established in 1947, are based on mutual respect, trust, development cooperation and people-to-people ties. She expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand in the days ahead.

Referring to the floods that struck the Nepal-Tibet border area on Aug. 26, 2026, Minister Badi said the disaster had created additional challenges in ensuring the safety, protection and education of women, girls and children. She expressed hope for US assistance and cooperation in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected areas.

Minister Badi said the Government of Nepal is mobilizing available resources, equipment and human resources for the rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected communities.

She added that her ministry has prioritized the protection and social security of women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable and marginalized groups within its area of responsibility.

The meeting also included detailed discussions on measures to combat human trafficking and smuggling.
