Ganesh Parajuli says revised statute provisions should not be misinterpreted

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) parliamentary deputy leader Ganesh Parajuli has said the disciplinary provisions included in the party’s revised statute should not be interpreted differently or linked to specific individuals.

Speaking to journalists at the Federal Parliament premises in Singha Durbar on Wednesday, Parajuli said the revised statute was approved after extensive discussions within the central committee and was not drafted according to the wishes of any single person.

He clarified that the provisions were introduced to strengthen the party’s institutional system rather than target any particular leader or position.

According to Parajuli, the statute clearly defines the selection process, responsibilities and conditions for removal from positions ranging from the party chairperson to general members. He said the document also includes provisions regarding the circumstances under which the parliamentary party leader’s position can come to an end.

Responding to questions regarding the provision that allows the parliamentary party leader to be removed for refusing to follow instructions issued by the party chairperson, Parajuli said attempts were being made to misinterpret the provision.

He said the statute was prepared with the objective of making the party more organised, effective and institutional in the long term, without focusing on any particular individual or current officeholder.
