Agriculture Minister urges newly appointed NARC scientists to drive sectoral reforms

KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Environment Geeta Chaudhary has expressed confidence that the dedication and active involvement of newly appointed scientists at the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) will help take the country’s agriculture sector to new heights.

Addressing the inauguration of an orientation programme for newly appointed scientists organised by NARC on Wednesday, Minister Chaudhary urged the researchers to work with honesty, dedication and a results-oriented approach to address the challenges facing Nepal’s agriculture sector.

She said NARC has been grappling with internal complexities and structural problems in recent years, preventing it from establishing a clear roadmap despite the ministry’s continued support.

“Agriculture is the foundation of Nepal’s development, and scientists like you have a crucial responsibility in driving reforms,” she said.

The minister added that opportunities within the council would be based on performance, good governance and leadership capacity. She also said the government was preparing to strengthen coordination between NARC and the National Agriculture Modernisation Programme, noting that only honest, hardworking and results-oriented scientists would be considered for leadership roles.

Acting Executive Director of NARC Dr. Shreemat Shrestha said the five-day orientation programme would cover planning, monitoring, administrative activities, financial discipline and research. He urged the scientists to combine scientific knowledge with farmers’ long-standing experience to promote innovation.

NARC has launched the five-day orientation programme for 44 newly appointed senior scientists and 27 scientists.
