Humla’s Domukh awaits infrastructure development

HUMLA: The confluence of the Humla Karnali and Mugu Karnali rivers, known as Domukh, on the border of Humla and Mugu districts, is gaining recognition as an important destination from both tourism and commercial perspectives.

Domukh, which is connected to the Karnali Corridor, lies in Adanchuli Rural Municipality-1 of Humla, while the area across the Humla Karnali River falls under Soru Rural Municipality-3 of Mugu.

Domukh Bazaar, located on the Humla side, is considered one of the main commercial centers of Adanchuli Rural Municipality. Sher Bahadur Budha, chairman of the Domukh Market Management Committee, said business activities have increased since the Karnali Corridor came into operation.

According to him, Domukh Bazaar has become an important hub for travel and trade for residents of both Humla and Mugu. The corridor has contributed significantly to the growth of commerce in the area.

The confluence of the Humla Karnali and Mugu Karnali rivers has further enhanced the beauty of the Domukh area. With its riverbanks, surrounding hills, and natural environment, the area holds strong potential for domestic tourism.

However, it lacks the necessary tourism infrastructure, promotion, and management. The area is awaiting the construction of facilities, including temples and other tourism-related infrastructure.

According to local residents, the development of tourist rest areas, viewing points, food and accommodation facilities, and other essential infrastructure in Domukh would boost tourism and have a positive impact on the local economy. Improved access through the Karnali Corridor has made the area even more promising.

Domukh, known for its natural beauty, river confluence, commercial importance, and fish production, is still awaiting the infrastructure and promotion needed to realize its full potential, said Chairman Budha.

The area is also considered significant from a religious and cultural perspective. Local people use it for traditional rituals, including gaujo-cutting ceremonies, fasting rituals, kajkiriya, funeral rites, and other religious and cultural practices.

As a result, Domukh has established itself not only as a tourist and commercial center but also as an important site linked to the faith and cultural traditions of the local community. The Domukh region is also renowned for the diverse species of fish found in the Karnali River.
