Chief Justice appointee Sharma, Acting CJ Malla skip Supreme Court benches



KATHMANDU: Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justice Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, who was recently recommended for appointment as the next Chief Justice (CJ), were absent from all Supreme Court benches on Friday.

The Supreme Court constituted 14 benches for the day, but neither Malla nor Sharma participated in any of the hearings. The remaining benches were operated by 15 other judges.

On Thursday, the Constitutional Council recommended Justice Sharma for the post of Chief Justice. Despite Acting Chief Justice Malla being first in the seniority order, the council selected Sharma, who was fourth in the seniority roll, for the position.
