Rain likely across country today, heavier in western regions

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public to remain cautious as rain, snowfall, lightning, windstorms, and hail are likely to affect various parts of the country on Wednesday.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane from the department’s Weather Forecasting Division said there is a possibility of heavy rainfall or snowfall in one or two places. He noted that a western low-pressure system combined with local winds is currently influencing the weather and is expected to intensify from Wednesday.

According to him, the impact will be more pronounced in western Nepal from the morning and is likely to extend to Kathmandu Valley by the afternoon.

As per the latest weather bulletin, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces are expected to remain mostly cloudy throughout the day, while the rest of the country will see generally cloudy conditions.

The department has forecast moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, gusty winds, and hail in many areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Similar conditions are likely in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as a few places in the Terai regions, including Madhes Province.

There is also a chance of heavy rain or snowfall in isolated locations in the hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, Lamichhane added.

Additionally, windstorms are likely in some hilly and Terai areas of Madhes, Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi provinces. Cloudy conditions are expected to persist on Thursday as well.
