Govt moves to address EPS roster issues for Korea-bound workers



KATHMANDU: The government has taken three key decisions in favor of individuals who have passed the Employment Permit System (EPS) exam for South Korea but have remained on the roster without getting job opportunities due to various reasons.

The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security said the current roster validity under the EPS system has prevented many candidates, despite passing the exam, from securing employment in South Korea. To address this, the ministry has decided to make diplomatic efforts to formally request the South Korean government to extend the validity period of the existing roster.

In addition, the government will initiate necessary diplomatic measures to increase the quota for Nepali workers going to South Korea under the EPS system, taking into account the demands of those currently listed on the roster.

The ministry has also decided to form a task force to make recommendations aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness in the EPS process. The task force will focus on issues including the procedure for forwarding personal details of roster-listed individuals to employers in South Korea and other related aspects of the system.

Ministry spokesperson Pitambar Ghimire said efforts are underway to implement the ministerial-level decisions taken on January 2.

“These decisions were taken to ensure that candidates who have already qualified through the EPS exam are not deprived of employment opportunities due to procedural limitations,” Ghimire said.

The EPS program remains one of the most sought-after foreign employment pathways for Nepali workers, particularly due to better wages and working conditions in South Korea.
