Shankharapur bus accident update: Four dead, 22 injured



KATHMANDU: Four people were killed and 22 others injured in a bus accident in Shankharapur Municipality–3, Kathmandu, on Wednesday evening.

According to the Valley Traffic Police Office, the identities of three of the deceased have been confirmed. They are Kamna Sharma, 49, of Kohalpur, Banke; Indira Limbu, 51, of Taplejung; and Shanti Gupta, 55, of Pepsi Cola, Kathmandu. The identity of the fourth victim has yet to be established, said Superintendent of Police and office spokesperson Naresh Raj Subedi.

“The death toll has reached four so far, and 22 people are injured. All the injured are currently undergoing treatment,” SP Subedi said.

The accident occurred when a Mahanagar Yatayat bus (Ba 4 Kha 8788), returning to Sankhu from Jarsingpauwa after a picnic, veered off the road and plunged about 100 meters down a slope at Phedi Jungle in Shankharapur Municipality–3.

Police said the injured are receiving treatment at Shankharapur Hospital, Mulpani Nagar Hospital, Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital in Sankhu, Nepal Medical College in Jorpati, People’s Life Care Hospital, and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
