156,000 voters registered in Baitadi



BAITADI: A total of 156,372 voters have been registered in Baitadi for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, according to the District Election Office.

Of the total voters, 78,987 are men, 77,383 are women, and two are transgender. District Election Office Information Officer Naresh Dayal said the voter count has increased by 6,216 compared to the previous election, when 150,156 voters were registered in the district.

For the upcoming election, five new polling stations have been added in Baitadi. These include polling stations at the ward office building of Sigas Rural Municipality–4 in Kandhar, Kedarshila Basic School in Surkal of Dasharathchand Municipality–7, Kedar Basic School in Sim Lodasau of Dasharathchand Municipality–9, Shreepur Basic School in Bachhala of Shivnath Rural Municipality–3, and Tripureshwor Secondary School in Kulda of Patan Municipality–5.

Meanwhile, one polling station has been reduced. Of the two polling stations previously located at Koteshwor Basic School in Melauli Municipality–2, one has been removed.

According to Purushottam Joshi, acting chief of the District Election Office, 214 polling stations have been designated for the upcoming election, up from 210 in the last election. However, the number of polling centers remains unchanged at 129.

The Election Office has also intensified the process of collecting details of temporary voters, including employees of local, provincial, and federal governments, security personnel, and individuals residing in prisons and old age homes.

In parallel, the District Election Office has begun internal preparations, including the transportation of election materials, manpower management, and logistical planning. As the election date approaches, political activities have also picked up in the district, with potential candidates from various parties becoming increasingly active in constituency-level engagements.
