Rain likely across Nepal as monsoon impact continues

KATHMANDU: As monsoon winds continue to affect the country, rainfall is likely in most parts of Nepal today.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the monsoon low-pressure line is currently located near its average position in the eastern region and slightly north of its average position in the western region.

At present, the weather is generally cloudy over the mountainous areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as over Koshi, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces. The Terai areas of Madhes Province and the Terai regions of Koshi and Lumbini provinces are partly cloudy.

Light rain is occurring in some places of Bagmati and Karnali provinces and at one or two locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Division stated that the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate rainfall is likely at some places in the mountainous and hilly regions, while light snowfall may occur in the high mountainous areas. Moderate rain is also forecast at some places in the Terai region.

Similarly, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the country tonight. Moderate rainfall is likely at some places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Rain or snowfall may also occur at some places in the mountainous regions, while moderate rainfall is possible at some locations in the Terai.

The Division has urged the public to remain alert, warning that rainfall may increase the risk of flash floods, flooding, landslides, and soil erosion. It said these conditions could affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation. The public has been advised to regularly follow weather updates issued by the department and take necessary precautions.
