RSP holding district conventions in 28 districts today



KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding its first district conventions in 28 districts today.

Chief of the Central Election Commission Bhuwan KC informed that conventions are being held in four districts of Koshi Province, four of Madhes, two of Bagmati, four of Gandaki, six of Lumbini, six of Karnali, and five districts of Sudurpaschim Province.

According to him, conventions will be held in Udayapur, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Ilam, Siraha, Dhanusha, Parsa, Sarlahi, Chitwan, Dolakha, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat Susta), Gorkha, Lamjung, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, Pyuthan, Surkhet, Jajarkot, Dailekh, West Rukum, Mugu, Jumla, Achham, Doti, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Bajura.

According to KC, a three-member election committee has been formed in each district to conduct the district convention elections in a fair manner.

RSP has already completed its conventions in 38 districts on Saturday. According to the commission, elections were held in Jhapa, Morang, Terhathum, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Mahottari, Rautahat, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, and Sindhuli on Saturday.

Similarly, in Syangja, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Gulmi, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Rolpa, Kalikot, Salyan, Baitadi, Bajhang, and Darchula, new leadership has been elected.

Stating that the district conventions are an important step in transforming the party from an ad hoc structure into a fully legal and popularly mandated organization, the Commission has requested all stakeholders to conduct the internal democratic exercise in a clean, fair, and peaceful manner.

Ahead of the first national convention, RSP is preparing to hold district conventions in 67 out of 77 districts. Conventions in the remaining 10 districts will be held after the national convention.

The party’s provincial conventions will begin on June 26. Five-member provincial election committees have been formed in all seven provinces to conduct the provincial conventions. The first national convention of RASWPA will be held in Chitwan from June 21 to 23.
