Harka Sampang announces House of Representatives candidacy from Sunsari-1

KATHMANDU: Central Chair of the Labour Culture Party and Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Harka Raj Rai (Sampang), has announced his candidacy for the House of Representatives election from Sunsari constituency No. 1, scheduled for March 5.

Sampang made the announcement through a Facebook post, confirming that he would contest the parliamentary election from Sunsari-1. “I will contest the House of Representatives election from Sunsari constituency No. 1. Jai Maato, Jai Desh,” he wrote.

Sunsari constituency No. 1 includes all 20 wards of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, along with five wards of Barahakshetra Municipality and two wards of Ramdhuni Municipality.

In the 2022 general election, Ashok Kumar Rai of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal won the seat from Sunsari-1 with the support of the CPN-UML.

Sampang himself was elected mayor of Dharan as an independent candidate in the 2022 local level elections, contesting with the ‘Lauro’ election symbol. His decision to enter parliamentary politics comes while nearly half of his mayoral term remains.

After forming the Shram Sanskriti Party, Sampang has already expanded his political campaign across all districts of Koshi Province and extended it to Kathmandu and Lumbini Province. His party is said to be receiving strong support, particularly in the hill districts of Koshi Province.
