KATHMANDU: The nomination process for candidates contesting the election of National Assembly (NA) members is taking place today. The Election Commission (EC) is set to hold the National Assembly election on January 25 for 18 seats that are due to fall vacant.
The Commission had earlier published the voter list on January 3 and, after reviewing claims and objections, released the final voter list on Tuesday. According to the Commission, candidates can file their nomination papers today between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
As per the election schedule, complaints against candidates can be lodged on January 8, while candidates may withdraw their nominations on January 11. The final list of candidates will also be published on the afternoon of January 11. Election symbols will be allocated on January 28.
Voting is scheduled to take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on January 25. The Commission has published the list of voters and their respective weightage based on the National Population Census 2078. Members of the provincial assemblies, along with chiefs, deputy chiefs, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of local levels, are eligible to vote in the National Assembly election.
