Heavy rainfall likely in several provinces today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions are expected to bring generally cloudy skies and moderate to heavy rainfall to several parts of Nepal today, with the Meteorological Forecasting Division warning of heavy downpours in some areas.

According to the Division, the monsoon trough lies south of its average position over eastern Nepal and near its average position over western Nepal.

Weather conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, while Madhesh Province will experience partly cloudy skies. Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is already occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

This afternoon, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy across the country’s hilly and mountainous regions, as well as in the Terai districts of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. The Terai areas of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces are expected to remain partly cloudy.

The Division has forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms at many places in the hilly and mountainous regions, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely at some locations. Similar weather conditions are expected at a few places in the Terai districts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at one or two places in the Terai of Koshi and Madhesh provinces.

Strong winds are also likely in some parts of the Terai districts of Madhesh, Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected to prevail across the country. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at many places, while moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at some locations in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. Similar conditions are also likely at a few places in the hilly and Terai areas of Madhesh, Karnali and Bagmati provinces.

The Division has also warned of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
