KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has called on the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) to inspire non-resident Nepalis to invest in Nepal and help utilize the country’s economic potential.
During a meeting with newly elected NRNA representatives at Shital Niwas on Monday, President Paudel said the diaspora community could contribute to Nepal’s efforts toward good governance, economic prosperity and international recognition.
He identified sectors such as hydropower, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, information technology, education and health as promising areas for investment. The president also noted that Nepal’s geographic position between the large markets of India and China offers opportunities for expanding infrastructure, industrialisation and domestic production.
Paudel said the country has moved beyond a period of uncertainty following the mandate given by people through the 2022 Nepalese general election, which prioritised development, prosperity, social justice and good governance. He stressed the need to move forward by upholding the values and principles of the federal democratic republic.
The president also shared that a perspective plan has been prepared to develop Chundiramgha, the birthplace of Bhanubhakta Acharya, as a destination for literary tourism, expressing hope that NRNA would support the initiative.
On the occasion, newly elected NRNA chair Hemraj Sharma briefed the president on the organisation’s activities and future plans. Paudel also congratulated the new leadership and expressed confidence that the association would work to bring together Nepalis living abroad.
