Two arrested for cheating people of Rs 1.75 million



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two individuals on charges of cheating people of a total of Rs 1.75 million by luring them with promises of employment in Australia and Slovakia.

The arrested have been identified as Rupesh Lamichhane, 35, of Panchkhal Municipality-3 in Kavrepalanchowk, and Hira Tamang, 35, of Khaneba Rural Municipality-3 in Dhading, according to Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Karki.

Police said the arrests were made based on complaints filed by the victims. Lamichhane allegedly cheated a victim of Rs 900,000 on the pretext of sending him to Australia, while Tamang is accused of defrauding Rs 850,000 by promising employment in Slovakia.

Both suspects have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, for further investigation and necessary legal action, Karki added.
