Nepali Congress 15th General Convention: Closed session begins today



KATHMANDU: The closed session of the Nepali Congress’ 15th General Convention is beginning today, with reports from the party president, vice-president, general secretary and treasurer scheduled to be presented and discussed.

Around 7,500 general convention representatives are participating in the closed session, which will be held at Khulamanch in Kathmandu. The representatives will be divided into three groups based on geography — Himal, Pahad and Terai-Madhesh — for discussions on the reports.

The inaugural ceremony of the General Convention was held at Khulamanch on Sunday. The election process for selecting the new Central Working Committee will also begin today.

Election schedule made public

According to Raju Katuwal, member-secretary of the Nepali Congress Central Election Committee, the election process will begin at 5 pm today with the publication of the voter list.

Objections to the voter list can be filed from 5 pm to 6:30 pm, while the final voter list will be published at 8:30 pm.

Candidate nominations will be registered from 10 am to 3 pm on October 6. The final list of candidates will be published at 4:30 pm, followed by a period for filing objections from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The second list of candidates will be published at 7 pm.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations until 9 am on October 7, and the final list of candidates will be published at 10 am. Election campaigning will be allowed throughout October 7.

Voting will take place from 7 am to 5 pm on October 8, according to Katuwal. Voting will be conducted at Rastriya Sabha Griha, Khulamanch and Nepal Academy. The Election Committee said vote counting will begin immediately after voting concludes. According to party sources, electronic voting machines will not be used in the election.
