Kaski landslide update: Two workers die



POKHARA: Two workers who were seriously injured in a landslide while working on an access road to the under-construction Super Seti Hydropower Project in Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-1, Kaski, have died during treatment.

The deceased have been identified as 26-year-old Ayush Rai of Pakhribas Municipality-8, Dhankuta, and 27-year-old Kisan Rai of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality-1, Khotang. Both were working on the hydropower project.

According to Birendra Kumar Paswan, information officer and deputy superintendent of police at the District Police Office, Kaski, the two died while undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital.

Another worker, 32-year-old Bhakta Bahadur Magar of Ilam, was injured in the incident. Police said he sustained a knee injury and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The landslide occurred at around 11 am on Friday while workers were excavating the access road to the hydropower project.

Locals and police immediately rescued the workers trapped by the landslide and took them to Manipal Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The Super Seti Hydropower Project, located in Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality of Kaski, has a planned capacity of 24 megawatts and is currently under construction.
