CM Yadav vows to build disaster-resilient settlements in Madhes

SARLAHI: Chief Minister of Madhes Province Krishna Prasad Yadav has pledged to develop disaster-resilient settlements through collaboration with all stakeholders.

He made the remarks while addressing a disaster management programme held on the banks of the Bagmati River in Karmaiya of Bagmati Municipality-11 in the district on Thursday.

Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that coordination and cooperation among all stakeholders are crucial for building disaster-resilient communities.

He said the government has been working in coordination with security agencies and other relevant bodies, adding that such collaboration would make disaster response and rescue operations more effective.

He also informed that an action plan would soon be prepared based on an assessment of past natural disasters that have caused significant damage in Madhes Province. The plan will focus on minimizing loss of life and property, he added.

“Policy-level decisions are made by the government, while implementation is carried out by security agencies. Therefore, coordination is extremely important,” he said.

On the occasion, Minister for Internal Affairs, Communications and Law of Madhes Province, Fakira Mahato, said the government is committed to ensuring the safety of citizens and their property. He added that regular mock drills on disaster preparedness would improve the efficiency of security agencies and strengthen disaster response mechanisms.

A “Hatemalo” disaster preparedness programme was conducted with the participation of the Nepali Army and the Madhes Province government to reduce disaster risks, according to Major General Bhuwan Khatri. This marks the eighth edition of the series.

Senior government officials from Madhes Province were also present at the event.
