SC to hear habeas corpus petitions challenging detention of Oli and Lekhak

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to hear habeas corpus writ petitions challenging the detention of former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak today.

The petitions, filed by their family members, will be heard by a joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Sunil Kumar Pokharel.

Both leaders were arrested on March 28 following a government decision to implement the report of the Gauri Bahadur Karki Commission, which was formed to investigate incidents related to the Gen-Z movement.

Challenging the arrests as unlawful, separate writ petitions were filed at the Supreme Court on the same day. After preliminary hearings, the court issued show-cause orders to the government.
