KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has called a meeting of its parliamentary party, scheduled to be held at Singha Durbar at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
According to Nepali Congress MP Basana Thapa, the meeting is expected to discuss the selection of the parliamentary party leader. “The official agenda has not been announced yet, but the party leader needs to be elected,” she said.
Other major parties have already chosen their parliamentary party leaders. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has selected its senior leader as parliamentary party leader, while CPN-UML has appointed Ram Bahadur Thapa to the position. Similarly, the Nepali Communist Party has chosen Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ as its parliamentary leader.
Likewise, Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harka Sampang and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Gyanendra Shahi have assumed their respective parliamentary leadership roles.
However, the Nepali Congress, currently the second-largest party in the House of Representatives, has yet to select its parliamentary party leader.
The leader of the main opposition party is a constitutional position and also serves as a member of the Constitutional Council.
